Lincoln Square Bowling

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Last night I found the coolest little dive bowling alley and bar. While the person I went with turned out to not be very exciting or fun, I’m super happy to have discovered this place. To give you an idea, it’s located above an Ace Hardware store, I didn’t see anyone drinking anything but Miller, PBR, or Old Style, and you have to keep score yourself! How cool is that? It’s like combining all of the best parts of my childhood into one place. It was a little bit spendy - $3 for a PBR seems outrageous to me - but the atmosphere totally made it worthwhile. I’ll keep you all posted on the next cool little neighborhood spot that I find.

More Blogs

For those of you that can’t get enough of my writings, and I know you’re out there somewhere, I’ve decided to start a couple of other blogs. “How do I find the time?” you ask. Well, I’m single, in a brand new city, live alone, and don’t own a TV. Time is not one of my big issues at the moment. Not becoming that strange recluse guy walking around talking to himself, that’s a bigger issue.

Anyway, If you feel so compelled to hear what I have to say about politics or business, you can read about that at my thinkpickle blog (thanks to Gabe for giving me the “pickle” idea). If you’re more in the mood for discovering Chicago cafes and tracking the number of Macs vs. PC’s in said cafes, you can read that at my cafeandmacs blog.

Alright, I’ve stalled long enough. It’s time for me to get to work.

Now I have to do something impressive…again.

I’d like to say how proud I am of my brother Ben. He was offered and excepted the head coaching position at Janesville Craig yesterday. He emailed to let me know about it but then I heard about it again this morning from a variety of friends. Turns out it was on the Madison news station last night and there was a whole article on him in the paper today:

http://www.madison.com/tct/blogs/prepwork/437261

It was a great article and my personal favorite was the last couple of lines:

“One of the classiest student-athletes that I have had the privilege of covering during my nearly 20 years at the Capital Times, McCormick was a winner on and off the field. Now he will get the opportunity to turn the next generation of student-athletes into winners in the classroom and on the field at Janesville Craig.”

While I’m proud and very happy for Ben, this means more work for me. You see, we McCormicks are a competitive bunch and he is now one step ahead. So my next goal? A Wall Street Journal article about me within the next two years. Agh! That’s going to mean a lot of work.
